#Libya’s New Justice Minister Agrees to Provide New Lockerbie Patsies

Source: The Scotsman

LIBYA’S interim justice minister has said he would work with Scottish authorities investigating the Lockerbie bombing to help them to bring to justice all those involved in the atrocity.

Mohammed al-Alagi said he would co-operate with prosecutors from Scotland trying to find out who else, other than Abdelbaset ali Mohmed al-Megrahi, carried out Britain’s biggest mass murder.
His remark at a news conference last night was an about-turn from the position he took earlier this week, when he said the case was closed.

The change of tack was given a cautious welcome by those who lost loved ones as a result of the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Scotland, which killed 270 people in 1988. It was also welcomed by the Scottish Government.

The Crown Office has asked Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) for access to papers or witnesses that could implicate more suspects in the terrorist attack, including the deposed Libyan leader, Muammar al-Gaddafi.

#Libya : Mass Grave In Libya

In April 2004, Gaddafi publicly acknowledged that, in 1996, killings had taken place in Tripoli's Abu Salim prison.

The Gaddafi government said that the killings took place during a battle between prison guards and al Qaeda's Libyan Islamic Fighting Group.

Around 200 guards were killed.
[8]

Human Rights Watch, said to be linked to the CIA, claims that 1,270 prisoners were killed.

However, this estimate is based on the account of a single former inmate.
[6]

Now the BBC claims to have found the bones of people killed at Abu Salim prison.

But, "No excavation has taken place at the site."

And, "Members of the media were shown bones at the site, but medics with CNN staffers on the scene said the bones did not appear to be human."...read more

#Libya #Lockerbie : #CIA Drug Hit ?

On 26 September 2011, the media reported that prosecutors in Scotland asked the new Libyan leadership for its help with the Lockerbie bombing inquiry.

Scotland's Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland QC asked the Libyan authorities to hand over any information that could lead to a second trial over the bombing, which killed 270 people in December 1988.

The Crown Office sought assistance from Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) to gain evidence that could lead to the conviction of others involved in the atrocity.

A spokesman said that "In particular we have asked the NTC to make available to the Crown any documentary evidence and witnesses which could assist in the ongoing inquiries."...read more

Embassy murder suspect found dead

A former Libyan diplomat alleged to have been involved in the 1984 killing of PC Yvonne Fletcher outside the Libyan embassy in London has been found dead in Tripoli, the country's National Transitional Council (NTC) has confirmed.

The announcement came as it emerged that Metropolitan police officers may be sent back to the Libyan capital to pursue Fletcher's killers after Downing Street said it had been talking to the NTC about how to deal with such "legacy" issues.

"The police investigation needs to conclude," a spokesman for the prime minister said. "If the Met need to go to Tripoli, one of the questions is when the conditions on the ground will allow that.

"It's a matter for the NTC as the interim authority. We have been talking to them about various legacy issues. In terms of helping to conclude the police investigation which started in 1984, it's a priority for the [UK] government."

Fletcher, 25, died from a shot fired from inside the embassy during an anti-Gaddafi demonstration. After an 11-day siege, 30 Libyans in the embassy were deported. Nobody was ever charged with her killing.

Several former Libyan diplomats have been named as responsible for either opening fire or ordering the attack. One of the diplomats, Abdulqadir al-Baghdadi, who later became chairman of the Libyan revolutionary committees, was found dead at his home in a suburb of Tripoli last week, an NTC official told Sky News.

Those seeking justice for Fletcher have claimed that a junior diplomat, Abdulmagid Salah Ameri, was seen firing a gun from inside the embassy.

The Crown Prosecution Service has said it is still waiting to see "a file containing the admissible evidence from a completed investigation. It would only be at that point we could give final advice."

The NTC has said that it knows the location of a third suspect implicated in Fletcher's killing, Matouk Mohammed Matouk, the Daily Telegraph reported last night. If correct, the revelation will add to pressure on the fledgling rebel government.

In 2007, after normalisation of relations between Libya and the west, Scotland Yard detectives flew to Tripoli to interview suspects. They returned in 2010 but were unable to conclude their inquiries.

"The investigation has always remained open and we remain committed to identifying those responsible," a Met police spokesman said.

The Foreign Office said that pursuing the investigation into the killing will be an important part of the UK's relations with the new government.

"The NTC has committed to fully co-operating in resolving these issues. During Chairman Abdul-Jalil's visit to the UK on 12 May he stated the NTC's willingness to work with the UK on resolving outstanding 'legacy issues'.

"We are in contact with the Met and stand ready to assist them in returning to Tripoli when the conditions on the ground allow."

There was no confirmation, however, of reports that a team of six SAS members and an MI6 officer were already in Libya tracking down suspects.

If any of the suspects were detained they would have to be handed over to the new Libyan regime. There has been some confusion about how willing the NTC would be to participate in such an investigation.

At the weekend Hassan al-Sagheer, an NTC member, suggested the new Libyan government would block fresh efforts to secure justice over Fletcher's murder.

At the moment, Libyan law prohibits the extradition of its own citizens. It does, however, allow for any of its nationals to be tried in Libya for alleged crimes that were committed overseas.

The #Libya Papers.

Libya papers

The hundreds of documents found abandoned in Tripoli last week give fascinating insights into the way the CIA and MI6 went about their daily business during the frantic period of late 2003 and early 2004.

In the wake of the September 11 attack and the invasion of Iraq, western intelligence agencies were desperate for information about extremists, and hoped that Libya could fill in some of the gaps.

The papers, assuming they are genuine, do not offer a complete picture, or even a partial one. Instead, they offer glimpses into the world of 21st-century espionage, and into the techniques and mechanics of a profession that necessarily conducts itself in the diplomatic shadows. They also show that intelligence gathering and sharing is a business conducted on an industrial scale.

#Libya #Muslims : Déjà Vu

This is a repeat of many spins applied by the American Administration to suit their agenda. Many examples can be found when one investigates thoroughly. A few recent examples comes to mind.. (Afghanistan "Taliban & Al-Qaeda"), Iraq (Saddam Hussein) and now Libya (M. Al-Ghadhafi).

It is a well known fact admitted by the American Administration that destabilizing an oil-rich Nation, will give them the edge to install their own "puppet stooge" and strip the desired wealth from the people. The last of such was Iran and the Shah!

Creating chaos has only led to further de-stabilization and rebellion. This wave of violence and chaos is spreading across the whole region including the close allies of the US. The Gulf States will be next in line.

Installing US trusted regimes will only infuriate the people. Today, it is hard for any Administration to maintain close secrecy with the extent of Internet Media Coverage that exists.

Over the past 30 years, the US has given the golden key to extreme Islamic fundamentalists to flourish in the M.E. Region, with no hard effort on their part. This revolt called "Intifada & Jihad" has taken momentum across the whole Islamic Region. One must bear in mind that Islam as a religion has become well established in many countries worldwide. Any aggression against an Islamic State can be interpreted as a political or religious nature.

In short, Muslims in this world are no longer considered as (Third-World Camel herders!!), and it is time we seriously look into a full co-operative system of co-existence.

#Lybia #Gaddafi stitches up lying Tony Blair by revealing truth about Al-Megrahis...

WHY was Abdelbaset Al Megrahi freed from a Scottish jail? Because the Scottish Ministers wanted the man with terminal ill cancer – given three months to live in August 2009 to be free. Because the UK Government in Westminster under Tony Blair and then Gordon Brown applied no pressure.  Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi, 57, was jailed in 2001 for his role in the murders of 270 people. He lives in Tripoli.

So what did we make of Colonel Gaddafi’s warning to Westminster of a “holy war” if Megrahi died in Scotland? There would be “dire consequences“. Would he reveal the truth? Who ordered the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103A over Lockerbie in 1988? Did Gaddafi take the rap for others – like the Syrians?
Diana Johnstone writes:
Gaddafi had finally given in to Western pressure to accept responsibility – but not guilt – for Lockerbie merely in order to get the unpopular sanctions lifted. The fact that he agreed to turn over two Libyan citizens to a Western court to be tried for the crime and to pay over two billion dollars of compensation to the victims was explicitly not an admission of guilt, but rather a response to blackmail by Great Powers in order to normalize relations and improve daily life.
Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond recently told us:
The decision was taken on the basis of Scots law and was not influenced by economic, political or diplomatic factors.”
He said that with a straight face. It was Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill’s decision to free Megrahi. His alone?

In 2004, Tony Blairs stood in the desert and extended his “hand of friendship” to Gaddafi.BP got a big oil deal. The 270 were forgotten.

But documents have been found. On the floor of the British Ambassador’s former residence in Tripoli are papers marked

#Libya's new leaders set for Tripoli move

AFP

Libya's new leaders say they will move to Tripoli next week after their forces defeated Muammar Gaddafi and they won wide international support for plans to bring democratic rule.

"We will go to Tripoli next week. Tripoli is our capital," National Transitional Council (NTC) chairman Mustafa Abdel Jalil told dignitaries and tribesmen in the eastern city of Benghazi on Friday.

Three days after overrunning Tripoli, the NTC announced on August 26 plans to transfer its executive branch to the Libyan capital, but said the whole of the council and its chair would only move once security was guaranteed... read more

#Libya:#TORY Donor / #Minister and a contract to supply oil !

An oil firm whose chief executive has bankrolled the Conservatives won valuable rights to trade with Libyan rebels during the conflict, following secret talks involving the British Government.

Alan Duncan

The deal with Vitol was said to have been masterminded by Alan Duncan, the former oil trader turned junior minister, who has close business links to the oil firm and was previously a director of one of its subsidiaries.

Mr Duncan’s private office received funding from the head of Vitol before the general election. Ian Taylor, the company’s chief executive and a friend of Mr Duncan, has given more than £200,000 to the Conservatives.

Vitol is thought to be the only oil firm to have traded with the rebels during the Libyan conflict. Oil industry sources said that other firms including BP, Shell and Glencore had not been approached over the deal. One well-placed source said this was “very surprising” because other companies would have been keen to be involved.

Last night the Coalition was under pressure to disclose details of Mr Duncan’s role in securing the deal, worth about $1billion (£618million). The firm is thought to have supplied fuel and associated products to the rebels and traded oil on their behalf.

The controversial firm has previously been fined for breaching sanctions and paid money to Arkan, the Serbian warlord, allegedly for oil contracts....read more

#NATO after #Libya : A threat to European stability

Address given on Monday, August 29, at the international conference Central Europe, the EU and the new Russia at the Czech Parliament in Prague.

More than two decades after the end of the Cold War, NATO is an obsolete and harmful anachronism. It has morphed into a vehicle for the attainment of misguided American strategic objectives on a global scale. Its mutation from a defensive alliance into a supranational force based on the nebulous doctrine of “humanitarian intervention” started with the air war against Serbia in 1999 and was completed with the Libyan intervention in the spring and summer of 2011. NATO in its mature form is beyond redemption or reform. It should be disbanded.

The Soviet Union came into being as a revolutionary state that challenged any given status quo in principle. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, however, Russia has been trying to articulate her goals and define her policies in terms of traditional national interests. By contrast, the early 1990’s witnessed the beginning of America’s attempt to assert her status as the only global hyperpower. Instead of declaring victory and disbanding NATO in the early 1990’s, the Clinton administration successfully redesigned it as a mechanism for open-ended out-of-area interventions at a time when every rationale for its existence had disappeared.... read more
